Ambo
Ambo is a town in the Oromia region lying to the west of Addis Ababa. It is best known as a spa town and place of relaxation to Ethiopians – bath houses and hotels were constructed here as early as the 1930s. The town is also famous for its bubbly mineral water, brand name Ambo, which is bottled outside of the town and can be found in almost every Ethiopian restaurant.
Wonchi Crater Lake
Sitting in the shadow of Mount Wonchi, Wonchi Crater Lake is the beautiful legacy of a once powerful volcano. Tucked in the mountains outside of the town of Ambo, it provides stunning scenery including waterfalls, hot springs, and valleys. An ancient island church called Cherkos is accessible via a boat ride across the lake. The area is great for short hikes and even horseback riding is available for those who wish to do so. After a picnic lunch in the area, Visit the peaceful Guder Falls before returning to Addis Ababa.
